Over I04 swimmers both professional and non-professionals participated in this year’s Kwibuka Swimming Memorial Competition which took place at over the weekend at Cercle Sportif de Kigali.
According to Rwanda Swimming Federation (RSF), the competition was organized with the aim of commemorating the 22 Genocide against the Tutsi that took place in 100 days.
Over 29 female and 75 male from seven different swimming clubs across the nation took part in the competition.
The inter-schools category was won by Rivera High School as the best followed by Lycee de Kigali.
The junior female breaststroke competition was won by 12-year-old Rodriguez Amanda from Little Germs Academy after clocking a time of 50”47”. In the boy’s arrangement, 8-year-old Mattis Mico from Cercle Sportif de Kigali finished first.
The senior breaststroke category was an all Zenith Club de Karongi affair. They won the both female and male categories with Clementina Neema and Timamu Hategekimana clinching a time of 38”00” and 37”00” respectively.
The junior freestyle category was won by Deborah Mana with 46”22” from Cercle Sportif de Kigali while Eric Iradukunda (29”00”) from Zenith won the male category.
The middle class competition was won by Joyce Rudaseswa from Cercle who clocked a time of 38”35” while Isaac Iradukunda from Gisenyi Beach Boys won the male category with a time of 28”.00”
In the relay competitions, Gisenyi Beach Boys were crowned the winners while over role Cercle Sportif de Kigali was crowned this year’s champion having walked away with majority medals in the entire competition.
Other teams that took part in the event include: Etincelle Canoe and Swimming club, Gatsibo swimming club, Town Swimming Club consisting of: Serena hotel and Kigali View Hotel, Thousand Kilos Women which consists of: Portofino, Sports View Remera, Novotel Umubano, Grand Legacy hotel, Cool Water Swimming Club: Sanitas, Hotel Hilltop and Country Club, Bellagio Hotel and Mamba.
