Diane Rwigara challenges the Rwandan economy policy

Diane Shima Rwigara says Tuesday, 20 June 2017, that the political system has to change to improve the economic sector giving an example that in 1995, one kilo of cassava flour was Rwf 50 and today got an increase of 16 times as it is at Rwf 800.

Rwigara was addressing the media at the National Electoral Commission (NEC) after presenting her nomination papers as a presidential candidate for the August elections.

Rwigara, 35, becomes the fourth aspirant after Frank Habineza, of Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, and two independents Gilbert Mwenedata and Fred Sekikubo Barafinda, who submitted their credentials.

She acknowledges that she doesn’t have a political background, saying that she has the potential to lead the country based on her experience in business.

Rwandans need a change and all of us, RPF was on leadership since 23 years, and will it do what it failed to do during that time in the next mandate?

One example among many more I have is in economy, whereby since 1995 a kilo of cassava flour was Rwf 50 and now increased at Rwf 800 in 22 years with the increase of 16 times, Diane Rwigara said.

She gives this example as a sample among many perspectives that she says need to change once she is elected, as she tells the media.

After examining Rwigara’s nomination papers, NEC chairperson Kalisa Mbanda announced that she had all the documents required as an aspirant.

According to the electoral calendar, the provisional list of nominated candidates will be announced on 27th June and the final list on 7th July. Campaigns will officially start on 14th July and ending on 3rd August 2017, a previous day to the elections.
