Louis van Gaal has been sacked as manager of Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho taking up his role, but where is the Dutchman’s next destination?
Speculation regarding the Dutchman’s future was intensified following Mourinho’s dismissal as Chelsea boss in December and despite Van Gaal’s insistence he was going nowhere, a fifth-place Premier League finish meant the writing was on the wall.
Even victory in the FA Cup final on Saturday against Crystal Palace was not enough to save the 64-year-old.
Van Gaal has been widely criticized for his style of football and poor performances, despite spending over £250m since being appointed in July 2014. But now that question is what LVG next destination is?
I don’t see him arriving in the Bundesliga Liga not in the Bayern Munich again feasibly Borussia Dortmund have an excellent coach Thomas Tuchel.
Neither do I see him going to Spain for the La Liga because his best years are gone; Today La Liga needs coaches who don’t shoehorn players in their system rather those who can adapt schemes according to the player’s capabilities.
He was in the 90’s in Barcelona, taking over from Bobby Robson. He might have helped them win two champions league champions (1997-98, 1998-99) and the Copa Del Rey once.
Despite his success, LVG clashed with the media and came under pressure; he personally once said how it was difficult to implement his style of football at Nou Camp due to cultural differences. His rows with Rivaldo are an example of this.
He has no place in Italian Serie A neither because he cannot get involved with the style of Italian football. The Italian league needs coach who emotionally intelligent. Coaches who have been successful at the stage just like: Carlo Ancelotti, Massimiliano Allegri and Conte Antonio Conte.
Perhaps maybe someone team needs to take up in France may by Olympique De Marseille whose golden era seems to be in the past. They need something; no club has won the Ligue I title more times than L’OM since the league establishment in 1932.
Marseille lives and breathes football and come match-day, the whole city shuts down for 90 minutes and over the past decades they have had some rich history and huge domestic and European pedigree.
