FERWAFA shortlist Quartet for Technical Director Job

Four coaches have been shortlisted by the local football body FERWAFA for the position of Technical Director.

The quartet includes: Michael Weiss of (Germany), Giovanni Scanu of (Italy), Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh (Holland) and Sebastien Desabre (France), one of them will be selected to replace Englishman Lee Johnson who resigned in April 2015 for greener pastures in India.

According to quotes from FERWAFA president Vincent nine applicants applied for the position of the Technical Director and we assessed their proposals before closing in on the final four.

“We are now in the process of making an ultimate decision to decide the capable coach fit for this position together with our main stakeholder, the Ministry of Sports and Culture (MINISPOC),” Nzamwita added.

The five that failed to make the cut are: Kiko Lopez (Spanish), Drago Mamic (Croatia), Adalbert Ivanov Zafirov (Bulgaria), Antonio Flores (Spanish-German), and Conor Marlin (Northern Ireland).

The new Technical Director will tasked to deliver and managing youth development programmes; develop and implement player analysis tools to enhance performance and support development; organize, plan, manage and deliver multiple projects to meet key performance indicators.

Former Amavubi striker Jimmy Mulisa will deputise for the yet-to-be appointed Technical Director.

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) will soon announce a new Technical Director to occupy this role which has been vacant since last year.

According to FERWAFA, He will also manage coaches to adhere, challenge, embrace and deliver short, mid and long term player development programs as well as develop new improved methods to enhance opportunities, availability and sustainability of grassroots football.

Hans Michael Weiss: He is the favorite candidate for the job having worked in the same position. Born 11 March 1965 is a German football manager. He is a free agent. His last job was as the head coach of Liga I team Oțelul Galați.

Weiss served internships with several football clubs around the globe such as Real Madrid, Arsenal, Kaiserslautern, and River Plate, to name a few.

In January 2011, he took charge of the Philippines national football team after being referred by the German Football Association in January 2011.

Under him, the Azkals rose to their highest-ever placing in the FIFA rankings, 127 (which was later surpassed, 124 under new coach Thomas Dooley).

On 15 January 2014, the Philippine Football Federation officially announced that his services had been discontinued.

In April 2014 it was announced that he was part of an 8-man shortlist to replace Eric Nshimiyimana as Rwanda manager. In June 2014, he took the control of Romanian former champions Oțelul Galați. He was sacked only three months later after a single win in seven games.

Coach Sebastien Desabre: He coached Dubai CSC in 2015 as head coach, Recreativo Desportivo Libolo of Angola in the same year and later left for Esperance Sportive De Tunis, Tunisia as club technical director between 2013/14. He was also at the Cotonsport de Garoua of Cameroon in 2012/2013, from ASEC Mimosas of Ivory coast as technical director between 2011/12.

Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh: Born 8 December 1970 is a Dutch former player whose last role was as head coach of Kenyan Premier League side A.F.C. Leopards.

Began his playing career at NAC Breda, before moving to Sparta Rotterdam, his professional career was cut short due to a serious ankle injury.

De Jongh then moved into coaching; beginning his managerial career at RKC Waalwijk as a youth coach, before becoming a youth coach for the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB).

He moved on to manage vv VRC in Veenendaal, FC Dordrecht reserve team and Vitesse Delft before becoming the assistant coach of AZ in the Eredivisie. He then went to Hungary to become the academy director of Budapest Honvéd.

He was been technical director for Budapest Honvéd in 2013 during his tenure, he strove to bring the Dutch philosophy to the academy. In May 2014, he reminded by fans of the team’s poor performances in the Nile Basin Cup and the KPL Top 8 Cup, where they lost to Tusker in the final and he was sacked.

Giovanni Scanu: He is a youth licensed coach: His last job was at FK Taurasi in Lithuanian in 2015, before going to Nigeria club FK Kaduna KADUNA, and Eccellenza of Sardinia in Italy.
