Rwanda’s U-18 men’s handball team has reached the quarter-finals of the 22nd African Men’s Youth Handball Championship after finishing second in Group C in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Rwanda lost 33–26 to Morocco in its opening match before drawing 36–36 with Libya to secure second place and advance to the knockout stage.
The young team will face Guinea in the quarter-finals on Saturday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville. The match starts at 17:30 in Abidjan, 19:30 Kigali time, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
The championship, organised by the African Handball Confederation (CAHB), runs from September 15 to 22 and features 14 national teams. The top two teams from each group advanced to the quarter-finals.
The tournament also serves as a qualification pathway for the 2027 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship, with five African teams set to qualify.
Rwanda now faces Guinea in a crucial knockout clash as it seeks a place in the semi-finals and a step closer to the world championship.
