The 2nd stage of the Tour du Rwanda 2025 arrived today in Musanze, today 25th February, the nerve centre of Rwandan cycling, where the historic training centre that gave birth to the modern history of Rwandan cycling is based.
It is therefore no coincidence that Eric Manizabayo and Patrick Byukusenge went on the attack as they passed through the centre’s gate, with just over ten kilometres to go to the finish line. They had copied their team-mate Shemu Nsengiyumya, who had been away for 95 kilometres with the German Vinzent Dorn (Bike Aid) for part of the stage.
The two Rwandan riders from the Java-Inovotec team held on for four kilometres before being caught by the peloton, which was racing at full speed towards the finish line. The sprint was therefore still on the programme for this 2nd stage after Henok Mulueberhan’s victory on Monday in Kayonza.
The Israel-Premier Tech team had wanted to put Itamar Einhorn, who had already won two stages in 2024, but it was his young teammate, Australian Brady Gilmore, who was the fastest, ahead of the Israeli Einhorn (2nd) and Frenchman Lorrenzo Manzin of the Total Energies team. Fabien Doubey remains in the yellow jersey of the event before the 3rd stage between Musanze and Rubavu.
