According to Tour of Rwanda Organizing Committee, the 8th edition of the tour will take place from 13 to 20 November 2016.
The committee has announced that the official presentation of the tour of Rwanda 2016 will be held on Wednesday, 8 June 2016 at Classic Hotel. On this occasion, they will unveil the journey, the news, the stakes athletes and partners of the tour of Rwanda.
Last year, the organizers who received a large number of candidates choose a new record of 17 teams consisting of 5 riders each for a total of 85 riders at the start on 15-22 November 2015.
Rwanda the hosts maintain three teams including: Karasimbi, Muhabura and Akagera and the home side will be defending the title the won consecutively in the last two editions.
Six professional teams were included on the list of competitors last year including four European based sides Like Team Loup Sport, (Switerzland), Savoie Rhone-Alpen (France), Global cycling team (Netherlands) and Bike Aid (Germany).
Debutants Scoddy Downunder from Australia and Novo Nordisk Development from the USA made the international list of six professional teams.
There were 11 African teams in last edition namely: Algeria, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Morocco and South Africa.
Jean Bosco Nsengimana won last year’s edition to walk away with yellow jersey after clocking time of 23:54:50 in the General Classification. He was followed by fellow countrymen Joseph Hareruya, Camera Hakuzimana and Eritrean Eyob Metkel finished fourth.
Valens Ndayisenga became the first Rwandan cyclist to win the Tour du Rwanda since its inception on the 2.2 Union Cycliste Internationale Africa calendar in 2009.
The annual Tour of Rwanda covers seven stages including the opening 3.5km Prologue stage which opens the competition at Remera Amahoro Stadium.
