UTAB University Set to Launch Master’s Degree Programmes

By Panorama

UTAB University has announced that it will begin offering master’s degree programmes, marking a major milestone in the institution’s academic expansion and strengthening its contribution to higher education in Rwanda.

The announcement was made by the Chancellor of UTAB University, Dr. Munana Gilbert, during the university’s 15th graduation ceremony held at the Byumba Campus, where 1,474 students graduated from various academic programmes.

Dr. Munana revealed that the university has received authorization to introduce postgraduate studies and that admissions for its inaugural Master of Sustainable Urban Management and Climate Change programme will commence in September 2026.

He said the launch of the master’s programme reflects UTAB’s commitment to expanding academic excellence, promoting research and innovation, and producing highly skilled professionals capable of addressing Rwanda’s sustainable development and climate resilience challenges.

“The introduction of master’s programmes is part of our vision to provide high-quality higher education and contribute to Rwanda’s sustainable development by producing competent professionals and researchers,” he said.

The new postgraduate programme is expected to provide graduates and working professionals with opportunities to pursue advanced studies, strengthen research capacity and acquire specialized knowledge aligned with national and regional development priorities.

During the graduation ceremony, UTAB awarded degrees to students from the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Social Sciences, comprising the Departments of Social Sciences and Management Development Studies, and the Faculty of Agriculture, Environmental Management and Renewable Energy, which includes the Departments of Agriculture, Environmental Management and Renewable Energy.

Congratulating the graduates, Dr. Munana encouraged them to uphold the values of the university and become responsible ambassadors of UTAB in their professional and personal lives.

“The knowledge and skills you have acquired should enable you to contribute meaningfully to your communities and to Rwanda’s socio-economic transformation,” he said.

The launch of master’s degree programmes marks a significant new chapter in UTAB University’s development, positioning the institution to expand its role in postgraduate education, research and professional training.

University officials are expected to announce detailed admission requirements, application procedures and the academic calendar for the new programme ahead of enrolment in September.
