Senegal National football team, Teranga Lions has begun their training camp in Kigali this Monday as they preparation for their Group K AFCON qualifier against Burundi on June 4 in Bujumbura.
The West African team arrived in Kigali on Sunday night and is expected to play an international friendly with Rwanda at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday, May 28 ahead of their way to face Burundi in the AFCON on June 4 in Bujubura.
The former Senegal international now head Coach Aliou Cissé arrived in Kigali with a strong 23 man squad and he will be handling his first match as coach since being appointed to the position.
Senegal is on the brim of qualification for next year’s tourney in Gabon, as they sit contentedly at the peak of Group K with 12 points, they are pitted in Group K against Nigerm, Nambia and Burundi.
Fenerbahçe striker Moussa Sow and Dame Ndoye of Hull City were not invited for technical reasons, according to the coach.
Former captain Cisse is not taking anything for granted in his quest to rebuild the Teranga Lions their after early exit at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
“We are considered top favorites in our group for the Nations Cup but that is for the newspaper,” said Cisse. In Africa you have no favourites or weak teams; it is exactly what we must show from the first game against Burundi.” Cissé said during training at Stade de Kigali.
