Kampala 23 April 2016-The Hippos of Uganda ejected the Amavubi (Junior Wasps) of Rwanda to set up a meeting with the Egyptian side in CAF U-20 qualifiers game that ended at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
The Hippos won 2-1 to advance to the next stage of the qualifiers on a 3-2 goal aggregate following a 1-1 draw that ended in Kigali three weeks ago at Nyamirambo Kigali’s Stadium. Here is a recap of the whole game.
Uganda’s forward Zake Luboyera netted a goal in each half to eject Rwanda in front of game watched by a crowd of home fans.
4 minutes into the first half, Abeddy Biramahire nearly put the Rwanda ahead but his shot at the goalie James Ahabwe from about 10 yards spilled over the goal bar for a corner.
The opening goal of the match arrived in the 17th after Biramahire beat Uganda defenders to head the ball from Ange Mutsinzi’s curling delivery from the right flank.
Just three minutes later, Luboyera’s superb shot was hard for Jimmy Nzeyurwanda to contain as it slipped into the back of the net to level the matters.
The visitors continued to pressurize with threats from Captain Savio Nshuti and Blaise Itanshagaka causing all sorts of problems for the host’s defense before the break.
Ugandan coach Keffa Kisala brought on Muhammed Shaban for Frank Tumwesigye
Rwanda’s Amany Niyonkuru handled the ball in the forbidden box, which prompted match referee Israel Lemayian Mpiama to point towards the penalty spot.
Luboyera made it two when he converted the penalty sending the goalie the wrong way. Rwanda tried to respond swiftly by swapping Yamin Salum for goal scorer Biramahire. With just 19minutes towards our mark, the Hippos swapped Pius Wanji for Martin Kizza
Head coach Jean Baptiste Kayiranga made the other change bringing on APR’s academy player to increase intensity as they continued to search for an equalizer.
Goal hero Luboyera limped off to give way for Julius Poloto ten minutes towards the end as they reconvened frantically to kill off the game. Umar Mukobe was booked for wasting time deeper into added minutes as Uganda held on for the triumph until the final whistle was blown.
Uganda hence progress 3-2 on goal aggregate following a 1-1 draw in Kigali 22 days ago and will face Egypt at the next stage of the CAF qualifiers.
The winner will book a slot at the CAF-U-20 finals as they join the other six teams that will emerge from the qualifiers to join hosts Zambia for the tournament scheduled for 26 February to 12 March 2017.
