Moritz Kretschy, 23 years old, won the 18th Tour du Rwanda today after the final stage on the circuit of the last world championships where Eritrean Henok Mulubrhan triumphed ahead of Belgian Mauro Cuylits from team Lotto-Groupe Wanty.
But Kretschy already knew at that moment that his more than two-minute lead in the general classification was sufficient to savor his final victory.
Having already finished 9th in the final ranking in 2024, the German from team NSN Development managed this last stage thanks to his teammates who protected him during the last kilometers of the Rwandan week.
After his two stage victories in the challenging mountain race Alpes-Isère Tour in France in 2025, Moritz Kretschy wins his first stage race in Rwanda, completing his team’s impressive record in this edition with three stage wins alongside Itamar Einhorn and Pau Marti.
At the finish line, the German was relieved to have kept his yellow jersey since the evening of the 4th stage in Rubavu and happy to become the first German to have his name added to the record of the largest cycling race on the African continent.
Moritz Kretschy born 24 November 2002 is a German professional cyclist who rides for the UCI Continental team NSN Development Team. Known for his strong performances in both track and road cycling, Kretschy has steadily progressed through the junior and under-23 ranks to become one of Germany’s promising young riders.
Kretschy first gained international attention in 2019 when he won the team pursuit at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships, where he and his teammates set a new world record in the final. Earlier that season, he also won a bronze medal in the same event at the European Junior Track Cycling Championships.
In 2020, he continued his success on the track by becoming European junior champion in the points race.
Kretschy moved to the under-23 category in 2021, joining the Rad‑Net Rose Team. His first notable road result came in 2022, when he finished third at the Grand Prix Velo Alanya.
The 2023 season marked a breakthrough year. Kretschy won two German national under-23 titles—the road race and the time trial—at the German National Road Championships. That same year he finished eighth in the Tour Alsace and sixth in the under-23 road race at the UCI Road World Championships.
Following these performances, he joined the Israel–Premier Tech Academy in 2024, where he was regularly promoted to race with the professional squad Israel–Premier Tech. During that season he placed eighth in the Tour du Rwanda.
In 2025, Kretschy continued to impress internationally, finishing second overall in the Tour de Taiwan and winning two stages of the Alpes Isère Tour in May.
