President Paul Kagame arrives at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, where he was received by Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov, as he begins a three-day official visit to Azerbaijan.
On Saturday, September 20th, 2025, President Kagame will begin with a visit to the Alley of Honor, the final resting place of the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, to lay a wreath in his honor. President Kagame will also lay a wreath at the Victory Monument which commemorates the First and Second Karabakh Wars.
President Kagame will be officially welcomed by President Ilham Aliyev at the Zugulba Presidential Palace where they will hold a tête-à-tête meeting before joining their delegations to witness the exchange of new agreements in areas of agriculture, education, air services, trade and public service delivery. The two Heads of State will then deliver press statements before engaging in bilateral talks with members of both delegations.
President Kagame and President Aliyev previously met in November 2024 on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, this visit reiterates Rwanda’s commitment to further the existing bilateral collaboration between Rwanda and Azerbaijan.
