Thousands of residents of Kinyinya sector Gasabo District turned up on monday, June 24, for the launch of RPF-Inkotanyi’s campaigns for presidential and parliamentary candidates in Gasabo district.
An estimated over 10,000 supporters of the RPF gathered at the campaign site at Gitwaza stadium dressed in party colors, red, white and blue, sang patriotic songs as they waved party flags.
The RPF and its five allied parties fronted 80 candidates for the next legislature including 38 women and 42 men. They are among 589 candidates vying for 80 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.
Bernard Bayasese, the RPF chairman Gasabo district explained the this campaigning activity would take place across all the fifteen sectors of Gasabo district noting the district is behind the President Kagame so that they continue the trajectory of development the district is on.
“In Gasabo district we can’t thank him as he has ensured security, infrastructure development including the newly refurbished Amahoro stadium, BK arena, lots of roads, Kigali running track in Nyarutarama among others,” Byasese said adding “due to efforts that have been put in poverty eradication the locals are able to make money and save which improve the quality of lives.”
Rwandans will go to the polls from July 14-16 to pick the next Head of State and members of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house. It will be the first time the country holds presidential and parliamentary elections at the same time, following the revision of the constitution to allow for synchronized elections.
Incumbent President Paul Kagame is the RPF flagbearer for the presidential ticket.
Kagame who is expected to win with over 90% of the vote facing two opponents; lawmaker Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party, and independent candidate Philip Mpayimana.
