The Senate has organized nationwide visits to meet citizens, aimed at reviewing activities that support the development of livestock, with particular focus on ensuring that animals have sufficient, affordable, and high-quality feed. These visits are scheduled from January 20 to January 28, 2026.
The President of the Senate, Dr. Kalinda François-Xavier said, “the objective of this exercise is to engage with citizens in their communities, understand how they participate in livestock farming, and assess how income generated from livestock contributes to improving their livelihoods. In particular, the Senate will examine access to animal feed, as properly cared-for livestock are more productive, which helps citizens achieve food self-sufficiency and address the challenges they face.”
Before starting the field visits, Senators will hold a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock on the National Livestock Development Plan, including strategies to ensure adequate and quality animal feed, progress achieved so far, and measures put in place to address remaining challenges in the sector.
The expected outcome of this activity is to further promote livestock farming as a key driver for improving citizens’ livelihoods and strengthening the national economy.
