Rwandan Delegation attends ToT on Internal Quality Assurance in Germany

Embarking on a journey of knowledge exchange and academic enrichment, a delegation of two esteemed representatives from Rwandan Higher Learning Institutions has set foot in Germany.

From July 24 to 28, these dedicated individuals will partake in a transformative week-long training in Internal Quality Assurance at the prestigious University of Potsdam, situated in the vibrant city of Berlin.

In a bid to foster academic excellence and enhance educational standards, a Rwandan delegation comprising prominent figures in the country’s higher education sector recently attended a specialized “Training of Trainers (ToT)” program in Germany.

As the ICK website has reported, this significant collaboration marks a crucial milestone in fostering educational development and strengthening ties between Rwanda and Germany.

As these delegates immerse themselves in the program, they are poised to gain invaluable insights and expertise in the realm of quality assurance, paving the way for enhancing the educational landscape back in their home country.

The delegation comprises by Célestin Twagirumukiza, the Director of Quality Assurance at the Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK), and Dr. Liliane Umutesi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Tourism, Technology and Business (UTB). They embarked on a knowledge-enriching journey aimed at equipping them with cutting-edge methodologies and practices in the field of education.

This international collaboration marks a significant step forward for Rwanda’s academic community, further solidifying its commitment to advancing the nation’s educational landscape.

Organized by the University of Potsdam in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service – DAAD – and the German Rectors’ Conference, the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) National Multiplication Training of Trainers aims to support the Training Committees from Asia and Africa in preparing their upcoming multiplication activities in their home countries, which will take place in 2023 and 2024.

Rwandan participants have been selected as members of the Training Committee and multipliers in Higher Education Institutions Management in Rwanda.

Celestin Twagirumukiza, a participant from ICK, has told ICK News that he expects to gain skills that will help him animate a workshop for Quality Assurance Managers in higher education on related key topics for quality improvement.

As per Twagirumukiza, attending such training will also help the participants establish relations and bilateral cooperation between their universities.

“As the benefits, I can say that ICK will gain visibility at the national and international levels, which will help attract more international students and partnerships,” he said, adding, “It will also help ICK achieve financial sustainability.”

Twagirumukiza goes on to reveal that after this week-long seminar, Rwandan participants will train other Rwandan educators.

He said, “Indeed, we plan to train a group of 20 participants, composed of Quality Assurance Managers, Academic Registrars, Deans of Faculties, and Heads of Departments from diverse Higher Learning Institutions in Rwanda.”

“The Call for Applications will be released soon,” he added.

Among the 26 participants, fourteen attendees hailed from seven countries in Africa, while others are from the rest of the world.

The training was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD).
