Father Prof. Fidèle Dushimimana has been nominated as the new Vice-Chancellor of Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK), according to a statement on the placement of priesthood personnel in the services and parishes of the Kabgayi Diocese for the pastoral year 2023-2024.
The statement, issued on August 3rd by Monsignor Balthazar Ntivuguruzwa, outlines the appointments within the institution.
Father Prof. Dushimimana, who previously held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics and Research at ICK, will now take on the role of Vice-Chancellor. He succeeds Bishop Balthazar Ntivuguruzwa, who vacated the position after his election by Pope Francis to lead the Diocese of Kabgayi.
In his new role, Father Prof. Dushimimana will be joined by other appointed personnel.
Father Dr. Prudence Bicamumpaka will serve as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academics and Research, while Father Dr. Jean Marie Vianney Samarwa will take on the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration and Finance. Father Protais Musabyimana will oversee the financial matters of the institution.
As per statement, the appointed personnel will be in the appointment positions no later than August 31, 2023.
Father Prof. Dushimimana holds a PhD in Psychology from the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome, Italy. He pursued his studies at the Nyakibanda Major Seminary from 1992 to 1999, focusing on Philosophy and Theology. Subsequently, from 2003 to 2010, he pursued further studies at the Salesian Pontifical University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree, completing Master’s studies, and earning his PhD in Psychology.
According to the ICK News, Father Dushimimana is the author of the book titled ‘Kura Ujye Ejuru,’ a comprehensive guide covering child care from the fetal stage through infancy, adolescence, and up to the age of 18.
The news of his appointment has been met with enthusiasm among the students of ICK.
Bisangwa Cedrick, a third-year student, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Woooowww!!! It is very satisfying indeed. He deserved it.”
Aimé Gerard Ufitinema, another student at ICK, conveyed his happiness for Father Dushimimana’s promotion.
He described Father Prof. Dushimimana as someone who listens to everyone and cherishes them parentally. He added that the new Vice-Chancellor is known for his politeness and educational prowess.
Ufitinema also shared his hopes for improvements at ICK under the new leadership, including enhancing campus facilities, reinforcing the teaching staff, expanding student entertainment options, and providing a designated place for meals.
Ufitinema expressed confidence in Father Prof. Dushimimana’s ability to lead due to his relatively young age.
He concluded by saying, “I believe in him due to the fact that he is still young!”
Overall, the ICK community is looking forward to the positive changes and developments that Father Prof. Dushimimana’s leadership will bring to the institution.
