Johannesburg, February 22, 2017- The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) and German Football Association (DFB) signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding aimed at administration, promotion and development of football.
The partnership, which will span two years, will focus on technical assistance (coach, referee and player development) and administrative assistance.
The MOU signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the FIFA Executive Summit underway in South Africa at Sandton Convention Centre.
FERWAFA was represented by President Nzamwita Vincent while DFB was represented by President Reinhard Grindel.
Speaking after the MOU signing ceremony, FERWAFA President, Nzamwita said, “We are delighted to be partnering with DFB and this football development partnership is ideal in helping FERWAFA realize its goal of further developing football to a pleasing level,”
In general, the MOU between DFB and FERWAFA will cover the following technical areas;
- a) Coaching Courses in Germany
DFB will invite two coaches appointed by FERWAFA to take part in its annual English-language coaching course for foreign coaches, held in one of the various sport centres. The coaches will hold at least a CAF B-license. - b) Coaching Courses in Rwanda
DFB will send coach instructors to Rwanda where they will provide lectures and practical study courses to local coaches appointed by FERWAFA. - c) Talent Promotion
FERWAFA will invite DFB experts to Rwanda in order to observe and support the development of FERWAFA’s talent promotion system.
In the administrative areas, both FERWAFA and DFB officials will positively strengthen the co-operation between the two associations through study visits and as well as cooperate in designing and implementing administrative structures to foster the professionalization of football in Rwanda.
The MOU with Germany Football body, DFB is a big boost to the development of football in the country following another MOU that Rwanda signed with the Morocco Football Federation which involves technical and administrative assistance as well as medical treatment where up to five players benefit from state-of-the-art surgeries in Morocco each year.
