Kigali 19 November 2016 – All the riders of this 8th edition of the Tour of Rwanda knew that the penultimate stage today would be decisive for the positions in the general classification. At first, Valens Ndayisenga who had not forgotten the scenario of the previous edition in 2015 when Jean-Bosco Nsengimana had made a triumph in front of the regional stadium of Kigali by attacking ten kilometers earlier.
Valens Ndayisenga followed exactly the same scenario by going out of the lead group almost in the same place as his predecessor to pass the line as the winner while Metkel Eyob the second in the general classement finished second just behind him.
Between the two riders of Dimension Data for Qhubeka, the agreement was perfect to ensure the first place of the general classification which should not escape the South African team.
The show has lived up to the event, the Rwandan fans have come to encourage their riders and especially Valens Ndayisenga who could become tomorrow in the final stage, the first rider to win two Tour of Rwanda.
THE WINNER
By winning a second stage this week, Valens Ndayisenga has increased the number of his stage victories on the Tour of Rwanda with four victories, after 2013 and 2014.
He equals the record held by the Eritrean Mekseb Debesay and the American Kiel Reijnen. “I know that the records are important but for me what is even more important is to win the final classement tomorrow,” said young rider Rwanda of 22 years. «This is the biggest goal of my season and if tomorrow I reach it, I will be the happiest of men. ”
