The Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD) yesterday paid tribute to the former board members and staff killed during the 1994 genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi.
At its 9th session, BRD remembered the victims of Tutsis who were former staff and employees of the bank killed during the 1994 genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi.
Alex Kanyankole, BRD’s Chief Executive Officer appreciated the togetherness of Rwandans to remember the genocide perpetrated against Tutsi and pledge to preserve the unit and reconciliation of Rwandans instead of sawing segregation.
“All of BRD’s employees killed were the effort of the country that the bank used to achieve its goals of development, by remembering our brothers and sisters killed, we must also promote the unit and reconciliation as Rwandans instead of segregation,” Kanyankole said.
Kanyankole comforted genocide survivors whose relatives lost unwillingly their lives during the brutal killings of Tutsis at the bank.
“As BRD family, we recognize you as our family mates and we will continue to remember the victims and the bad history of the genocide by fighting against its ideology,” he noted.
Defence Minister James Kabarebe thanked the good initiative of BRD to continue build the community through remembering the victims of the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi.
He said that remembering the victims of the genocide against the Tutsi means that they did not die definitely as their works did not also die.
Kabarebe also is grateful to the good will and effort of RwandaPatriotic Army (RPA), the military wing of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF- Inkotanyi) which stopped the genocide after successive victories on the battle field against genocide perpetrators (Interahamwe).
“It is not easy to explain huge enthusiasm of RPA soldiers to limit the genocide. It is not understandable how only 19.000 RPA soldiers were able to win the battle against millions of genocide perpetrators. It was not an easy battle but it was compulsory to save lives of people,” Kabarebe said.
He noted that remembering the victims of the genocide against the Tutsi is a key to build the country by striving for ‘never again’ genocide.
