Over 2500 Burundian refugees are said to have arrived in Rwanda this year according to a report from the United National High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
Until today, more continue to arrive in Rwanda at slow, steady pace as the Burundi crisis passes two-year mark.
According to reports from some media outlets on Wednesday April 26th, it is alleged that over 10,000 refugees fled to Rwanda in just this month, yet in fact official reports from UNHCR claimed that the number was only 406, which is even lower than previous three months.
In March, there were 595 new arrivals; 791 in February; and 732 in January, a total of 2,524 new arrivals so far this year.
The Government of Rwanda and UNHCR coordinate the refugee response and register refugees jointly and biometrically. The total number of Burundian refugees who have fled to Rwanda since the start of the crisis in April 2015 is 94,581.
Of those, 9,236 have been temporarily inactivated (either by leaving their refugee registration at the border when leaving the country or by missing three consecutive food distributions in Mahama camp).
This means the total number of Burundian refugees who fled since April 2015 and who remain actively registered in Rwanda are 85,345.
