University of Tourism, Technology and Business Management (UTB) with Ibuka association joined the rest of Rwandans on this Thursday to honor victims of Tutsi killed during the 1994 genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

The walk to remember that was held from the University headquarters at Kicukiro-Sonatubes to the integrated Polytechnique (IPRC) – Kicukiro was recalling the cross-way journey through which Tutsi were passed during the genocide.

According to Callixte Kabera, the principle UTB, the walk and partnership of Rwandans to remember the bad history of genocide shows that ‘never again’ is now possible.

“Remembering this horrific history is testifying the cross-way journey through which Tutsi passed, but also this gives a hope of life. From our history we, commit to build the country that gives a hope of life, safety and security. It is for sure that many achievements today re-affirm this confidence,” Kabera said.

He also recommended students to take a lesson from the genocide and to build peace among young generation and strive together for ‘never again’.

“As youth who understand the history of genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi, you must build new history fitting our future generation,” Kabera advised students.

Zulphat Mukarubega, UTB Founder urged students who escaped from the genocide to concentrate on lessons with the objective to seek for their future development and to serve the country as well.

Basilice Mukamana, CNLG coordinator in Kicukiro and Bugesera districts said that the major message to the youth is to stand-up for fighting against genocide ideology and to be alert to report whoever deny the genocide.

“Youth must avoid the lies of some parents who can mislead them with negative information about what happened in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi,” she said.
