Students and school representatives on this Friday May 19, 2017 honored the genocide victims killed during the 1994 genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi.
The students held a walk to remember from the school headquarters to Nyamirambo-St- Charles Lwanga Church to honor about 400 victims of Tutsi killed there during the genocide.
Silas Sempinga, the representative of Ibuka association in Nyamirambo advised students who were born after the genocide to avoid racial ideology as this was the main root that brought the genocide in place.
“You must recognize the history of Rwanda and be cautious of what the parents tell you about the history of Rwanda, they are the most who use to discuss and teach children about the races. Do not rely on racial ideology because this was the major issue that caused the genocide,” Sempinga advised young students of primary and secondary from Camp-Kigali.
According to Jean de Dieu Niyonsenga, the headmaster of Groupe Scolaire camp Kigali, this 5th commemoration of the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi at his school is the proper time to make a step forward in building a peaceful country by promoting patriotism and love among young generation.
“We wish that our children especially the students here at camp Kigali recognize the bad history of the genocide in Rwanda; we wish that they share the true history of the genocide to their younger brothers and sisters. We understand the best of creating the good culture of patriotism in our children,” Niyonsenga said.
Addressing the students, Nyarugenge RDF representative Captain Théodore Ntivuguruzwa, he advised them to have the spirit of patriotism and to contribute their effort to support the country by creating innovations.
“You have got opportunity to study and for sure you can use it to achieve more. There is a good vision of a good leadership of our country on which you can build the future,” said Ntivuguruzwa.
The school was remembering the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi within the week to remember which they started last Monday.
