The Chamber of Deputies has organised field visits for Members of Parliament across all districts of Rwanda to assess efforts aimed at increasing the productivity of food and cash crops, particularly coffee and tea.
The visits will be conducted from May 28 to June 4, 2026, in districts across the country, while visits in all sectors of the City of Kigali are scheduled for June 6–7, 2026.
Speaking about the initiative, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Hon. Gertrude Kazarwa, said that the visits are part of Parliament’s continued commitment to strengthening oversight and remaining closely connected to citizens.
“We continue to prioritise our oversight responsibilities regarding government programmes and staying close to citizens. These visits will enable us to gather first hand information from communities and stakeholders to ensure that initiatives aimed at increasing agricultural productivity deliver the expected results and improve the welfare of Rwandans,” she said.
During the visits, Members of Parliament will tour agricultural projects and hold discussions with local government leaders, farming cooperatives, development partners, and residents. The discussions will focus on key challenges affecting the agricultural sector, including low use of agricultural inputs, climate change impacts, inadequate agricultural infrastructure, and limited access to markets for farmers.
The MPs will also participate in the monthly community work, Umuganda, scheduled for the end of May 2026.
In addition, the legislators will receive concerns raised by citizens and assess progress made in addressing issues identified during previous field visits.
